Vaginal Infections (Yoni Vyapad)

In Ayurveda, vaginal infections are described under Yoni Vyapad, a group of disorders affecting the female reproductive system. These conditions arise due to imbalance of Pitta and Kapha doshas, along with involvement of Vata in some cases. Impaired digestion (Agni dushti) leads to accumulation of toxins (Ama), which along with Rakta dushti (impure blood) affects the vaginal environment and causes infection, irritation, and discharge.

Main Causes:

  • Imbalance of Pitta and Kapha doshas
  • Poor genital hygiene
  • Weak digestion (Agni dushti) and Ama accumulation
  • Excess intake of spicy, oily, or sweet foods
  • Hormonal imbalance
  • Unprotected sexual practices or infections

Common Symptoms:

  • Abnormal vaginal discharge (white, yellow, or greenish)
  • Itching and irritation in genital area
  • Burning sensation
  • Foul smell
  • Discomfort during urination or intercourse
  • Redness or swelling in the area

Ayurveda focuses on balancing Pitta and Kapha, purifying the blood, improving Agni, and maintaining proper hygiene through diet, lifestyle, and herbal therapies to restore vaginal health and prevent recurrence.
