Rheumatoid Arthritis (Amavata)
In Ayurveda, Rheumatoid Arthritis is described as Amavata, a condition caused by the accumulation of toxins (Ama) in the body along with aggravation of Vata dosha. Due to weak digestive fire (Agni), food is not properly digested, leading to formation of Ama. This Ama circulates in the body and gets deposited in the joints, causing pain, swelling, and stiffness.
Main Causes:
- Weak or impaired digestive fire (Agni dushti)
- Formation and accumulation of toxins (Ama)
- Consumption of heavy, oily, and incompatible foods
- Irregular eating habits
- Sedentary lifestyle and lack of exercise
- Exposure to cold and damp conditions
- Aggravation of Vata dosha
Common Symptoms:
- Joint pain with swelling and tenderness
- Stiffness in joints, especially in the morning
- Warmth and inflammation in joints
- Difficulty in movement
- Loss of appetite
- Fatigue and general weakness
Ayurveda focuses on removing Ama, strengthening Agni, and balancing Vata dosha through proper diet, lifestyle modifications, detoxification therapies, and natural treatments to relieve symptoms and improve joint health.
