Hypertension
In Ayurveda, hypertension is often understood as Raktagata Vata, a condition where aggravated Vata dosha affects the blood (Rakta), leading to increased pressure within the vessels. Imbalance of Pitta (heat) and Kapha (blockage) may also contribute by causing stress on the circulatory system. Weak digestion (Agni dushti) and accumulation of toxins (Ama) can obstruct the channels (Srotas), disturbing normal blood flow and pressure.
Main Causes:
- Aggravation of Vata, along with Pitta and Kapha imbalance
- Stress, anxiety, and mental tension
- Sedentary lifestyle and lack of exercise
- Excess intake of salty, oily, and processed foods
- Weak digestion (Agni dushti) and Ama accumulation
- Obesity and improper daily routine
Common Symptoms:
- Headache or heaviness in head
- Dizziness or lightheadedness
- Palpitations (fast heartbeat)
- Fatigue and weakness
- Irritability or restlessness
- Sometimes no noticeable symptoms (silent condition)
Ayurveda focuses on balancing Vata and calming the mind, improving Agni, and clearing the channels through proper diet, stress management, lifestyle changes, and natural therapies to help maintain healthy blood pressure levels.
