Urticaria (Sheetapitta)
In Ayurveda, urticaria is known as Sheetapitta, a skin condition caused by imbalance of Vata and Pitta doshas, often with involvement of Kapha. It occurs due to impurity of blood (Rakta dushti) and accumulation of toxins (Ama) resulting from weak digestion (Agni dushti). This leads to sudden allergic reactions on the skin, causing itching and rashes.
Main Causes:
- Imbalance of Vata and Pitta doshas
- Impure blood (Rakta dushti)
- Weak digestion (Agni dushti) and Ama accumulation
- Allergic reactions to certain foods, medicines, or environmental factors
- Excess intake of spicy, sour, or incompatible foods
- Exposure to cold, heat, or sudden weather changes
- Stress and emotional disturbances
Common Symptoms:
- Sudden appearance of red or pale raised rashes (hives)
- Severe itching
- Burning or stinging sensation
- Swelling in affected areas
- Symptoms may come and go repeatedly
Ayurveda focuses on balancing Vata and Pitta, purifying the blood, and removing Ama through proper diet, lifestyle regulation, and natural therapies to control allergic reactions and maintain healthy skin.
