PCOD
In Ayurveda, PCOD (Polycystic Ovarian Disease) is understood as a condition related to Artava Kshaya (reduced or irregular menstruation) and formation of cyst-like structures (Granthi) in the ovaries. It is mainly caused by imbalance of Kapha and Vata doshas, along with disturbance of Pitta. Weak digestive fire (Agni dushti) leads to accumulation of toxins (Ama), which obstruct the reproductive channels (Artavavaha Srotas) and disturb hormonal balance.
Main Causes:
- Imbalance of Kapha and Vata doshas
- Weak digestion (Agni dushti) and Ama accumulation
- Sedentary lifestyle and lack of exercise
- Excess intake of oily, sweet, and processed foods
- Stress and hormonal imbalance
- Irregular daily routine
Common Symptoms:
- Irregular or delayed menstrual cycles
- Weight gain, especially around abdomen
- Acne and oily skin
- Excess hair growth (hirsutism)
- Hair thinning or hair fall
- Difficulty in conception
Ayurveda focuses on balancing Kapha and Vata, improving Agni, removing Ama, and regulating hormones through proper diet, lifestyle changes, herbal therapies, and detoxification (Panchakarma) to support reproductive health and overall well-being.
