Thyroid Disorders
In Ayurveda, thyroid disorders are broadly understood under conditions like Galaganda (neck swelling) and disturbances in metabolic fire (Agni-Vikruti). They occur due to imbalance of Kapha dosha (leading to slowing of metabolism) or Pitta dosha (causing increased metabolism), along with involvement of Vata. Weak or disturbed Agni affects the body’s metabolism and hormonal balance, leading to various thyroid-related issues.
Main Causes:
- Imbalance of Kapha, Pitta, and Vata doshas
- Weak or disturbed digestion (Agni dushti)
- Accumulation of toxins (Ama)
- Stress and emotional imbalance
- Improper diet and sedentary lifestyle
- Hormonal imbalance
Common Symptoms:
- Weight gain or weight loss
- Fatigue and weakness
- Irregular menstrual cycles
- Hair fall and dry skin
- Sensitivity to cold or heat
- Swelling in neck region (in some cases)
Ayurveda focuses on balancing the doshas, improving Agni, regulating metabolism, and eliminating Ama through proper diet, lifestyle, stress management, and herbal therapies to support healthy thyroid function.
