Menstrual Disorders (Artava Dushti)
In Ayurveda, menstrual disorders are described as Artava Dushti, which refers to irregularities in the menstrual cycle due to imbalance of Vata, Pitta, and Kapha doshas. Proper functioning of Artava (menstrual blood) depends on balanced Agni and healthy reproductive channels (Artavavaha Srotas). Any disturbance in these factors can lead to irregular, painful, or excessive menstruation.
Main Causes:
- Imbalance of Vata, Pitta, and Kapha doshas
- Hormonal imbalance and stress
- Irregular diet and lifestyle
- Weak digestion (Agni dushti) and Ama accumulation
- Excess intake of spicy, oily, or processed foods
- Lack of physical activity or excessive exertion
Common Symptoms:
- Irregular periods (early, late, or missed cycles)
- Painful menstruation (cramps)
- Heavy or scanty bleeding
- Mood swings and irritability
- Fatigue and weakness
- Lower abdominal or back pain
Ayurveda focuses on balancing the doshas, improving Agni, and strengthening the reproductive system through proper diet, lifestyle, herbal support, and natural therapies to regulate the menstrual cycle and promote women’s health.
