Diabetes Mellitus (Madhumeha)

In Ayurveda, diabetes is known as Madhumeha, a type of Prameha disorder characterized by excess urination with sweetness in urine. It mainly occurs due to imbalance of Kapha dosha in the early stages, along with involvement of Pitta and Vata as the condition progresses. Weak digestive fire (Agni dushti) leads to accumulation of toxins (Ama) and improper metabolism, which affects body tissues and causes increased sugar levels in the body.
Main Causes:
• Imbalance of Kapha, Pitta, and Vata doshas
• Sedentary lifestyle and lack of physical activity
• Excess intake of sweet, oily, and heavy foods
• Weak digestion (Agni dushti) and Ama accumulation
• Obesity and metabolic imbalance
• Stress and genetic predisposition
Common Symptoms:
• Frequent urination
• Excessive thirst
• Increased hunger
• Fatigue and weakness
• Slow healing of wounds
• Unexplained weight changes
Ayurveda focuses on balancing Kapha, improving Agni, regulating metabolism, and eliminating Ama through proper diet, lifestyle changes, herbal support, and detox therapies to help manage blood sugar levels and maintain overall health.
