Infertility (Vandhyatva)
In Ayurveda, infertility is known as Vandhyatva, which refers to the inability to conceive despite regular attempts. It occurs due to imbalance of Vata, Pitta, and Kapha doshas, affecting the reproductive system. Proper conception depends on healthy Shukra (sperm), Artava (ovum), balanced Agni, and clear reproductive channels (Shukravaha and Artavavaha Srotas). Disturbance in any of these factors can lead to difficulty in conception.
Main Causes:
- Imbalance of Vata, Pitta, and Kapha doshas
- Weak digestion (Agni dushti) and Ama accumulation
- Hormonal imbalance
- Irregular menstrual cycle or ovulation issues
- Low sperm quality or quantity
- Stress, anxiety, and unhealthy lifestyle
- Poor diet and lack of nourishment
Common Symptoms:
- Difficulty in conceiving
- Irregular or absent menstruation (in females)
- Weakness or low vitality
- Sexual dysfunction or low libido
- Signs of hormonal imbalance
- General fatigue and stress
Ayurveda focuses on balancing the doshas, strengthening reproductive tissues, improving Agni, and clearing Ama through proper diet, lifestyle, rejuvenation therapies (Rasayana), and natural treatments to enhance fertility and support healthy conception.
