Eczema (Vicharchika)

In Ayurveda, eczema is commonly correlated with Vicharchika, a type of skin disorder (Kushtha) caused by imbalance of Pitta and Kapha doshas, along with involvement of Vata. It occurs due to impurity in blood (Rakta dushti) and accumulation of toxins (Ama) resulting from weak digestion (Agni dushti). This leads to inflammation, itching, and changes in the skin.

Main Causes:

  • Imbalance of Pitta and Kapha doshas
  • Impure blood (Rakta dushti)
  • Weak digestion (Agni dushti) and toxin (Ama) accumulation
  • Excess intake of oily, spicy, sour, and incompatible foods
  • Allergic reactions and sensitivity
  • Stress and improper lifestyle habits

Common Symptoms:

  • Itching (often severe)
  • Redness and inflammation of skin
  • Dry, rough, or scaly patches
  • Oozing or discharge in some cases
  • Thickened or darkened skin over time
  • Burning sensation in affected area

Ayurveda focuses on balancing Pitta and Kapha, purifying the blood, and removing Ama through proper diet, lifestyle changes, herbal applications, and detox therapies to promote healthy skin.
