Parkinson’s Disease (Kampavata)

Parkinson’s Disease (Kampavata)

In Ayurveda, Parkinson’s disease is correlated with Kampavata, where “Kampa” means tremors and “Vata” refers to the dosha responsible for movement and nerve functions. It occurs due to aggravation of Vata dosha, which affects the nervous system, leading to impaired control over body movements. Weak digestive fire (Agni dushti) and accumulation of toxins (Ama) may further disturb the channels, worsening the condition.

Main Causes:

  • Aggravation of Vata dosha
  • Aging and degeneration of nervous tissues
  • Weak digestion (Agni dushti) and toxin (Ama) accumulation
  • Stress, anxiety, and mental strain
  • Irregular lifestyle and improper diet
  • Lack of proper nourishment to the nervous system

Common Symptoms:

  • Tremors (shaking) in hands, legs, or head
  • Slowness of movement (Bradykinesia)
  • Muscle stiffness and rigidity
  • Difficulty in walking and maintaining balance
  • Reduced facial expressions
  • Soft or slow speech

Ayurveda focuses on balancing Vata dosha, nourishing the brain and nervous system, and improving coordination through therapies like oil massage, Shirodhara, Basti, and a supportive diet and lifestyle to enhance quality of life.
