Acidity (Amlapitta)
In Ayurveda, acidity is known as Amlapitta, where “Amla” means sour and “Pitta” refers to the digestive fire and heat in the body. It occurs when the Pitta dosha becomes aggravated, leading to excess production of acidic substances in the stomach. This disturbs the normal digestion and causes discomfort.
Main Causes:
- Excess intake of spicy, oily, fried, and sour foods
- Irregular meal timings or skipping meals
- Eating late at night
- Excessive tea, coffee, alcohol, or smoking
- Stress, anger, and mental tension
- Exposure to heat and hot climatic conditions
Common Symptoms:
- Burning sensation in the chest or stomach
- Sour or acidic belching
- Nausea or vomiting
- Loss of appetite
- Heaviness after meals
- Bitter or sour taste in the mouth
Ayurveda focuses on balancing Pitta dosha and calming the digestive system through proper diet, cooling foods, stress management, and natural therapies to maintain healthy digestion and comfort.
